About This Position

Geronimo Energy is seeking an intern to join its Policy & Strategy team for the summer of 2020. The intern will conduct analysis on legislative, regulatory, and energy market updates in order to inform internal strategic development. At the end of the summer, the intern will possess an understanding of the complex interactions between state & federal policies, regulatory agencies, organized energy markets, energy utilities, and renewable energy development. The student will come away with a firm grasp of the interface of policy formation and the renewable energy developer business model.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supports the Policy & Strategy team by tracking key developments in regulatory environments and organized energy markets and ultimately identifying potential impacts.
  • Researches and summarizes legislative, regulatory, and political activities relevant to the renewable energy sector.
  • Responds to inquiries from internal teams about, utility-, state- and/or RTO-specific programs and policies.
  • Researches industry trend news and potential new market opportunities.
  • Participates in trade association calls and advocacy efforts.
  • End of summer research project: topic to be determined by intern and manager.
  • Special projects as needed.

  • College student or recent graduate with a degree in public policy, economics, environmental studies/science, or related field.
  • Independent working style (Geronimo requires all its employees, including interns, to be self-motivated and able to take a new assignment and run with it).
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize critical tasks and conflicting requirements.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Strong interest in renewable energy policy.

Additional Information

  • This is a paid internship.
  • Expected hours are 40 hours per week.
